AdventHealth is a leading healthcare system that has made patient-centered care, safety, and employee training a central focus of its mission. The system recently embarked on a rebranding campaign to reflect its commitment to these principles and launched the Whole Experience Training program to train its employees to deliver high-quality care to its patients.

The training program is built around four central concepts: “keep me safe,” “love me,” “make it simple,” and “own the problem.” The training is designed to promote a culture of safety, where every staff member is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of their patients. The four-hour session brings together teams of nine people from across departments to share their perspectives and build a cultural framework that focuses on safety, love, and simplicity.

The system has trained more than 60,000 employees across its 45 hospitals in Florida, and early surveys show that patients are responding positively to the shift in culture. AdventHealth’s commitment to safety and quality is reflected in its participation in national quality assurance initiatives, use of electronic medical records, medication safety scanning, breast milk scanning, and a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan.

AdventHealth’s focus on safety is also reflected in its efforts to become a High-Reliability Organization, which anticipates potential problems and responds to them early enough to prevent catastrophic consequences. The system has also created a Safety Hotline for anonymous reporting of safety concerns, ensuring that staff members can voice their concerns and contribute to a culture of safety.

In addition to safety, AdventHealth’s commitment to employee training and learning is evident in its simulation training programs, which enhance the skills of healthcare providers and provide a safe learning environment for practitioners to test new clinical processes. AdventHealth’s Family Advisory Council and Teen Advisory Council also provide guidance for many key decisions regarding the quality of patient care.

AdventHealth provides physicians and advanced practice providers with opportunities to continue their professional development through a wide range of courses, which are available through the AdventHealth Learning Network (ALN). ALN offers courses in various topics, including communication skills, leadership development, mental health, crisis management, and emotional intelligence, among others. The courses are designed to fit the schedules of the learners and can be accessed through ALN.

Overall, AdventHealth’s commitment to training, learning, and safety is evident in its comprehensive approach to delivering patient-centered care. Its Whole Experience Training program and focus on safety and employee training have made a significant difference in how its employees behave and interact with patients. AdventHealth is setting the standard for delivering high-quality care in a safe and supportive environment.
